Residents in Alta Vista canquickly hop onto a commuterroute and head in severaldirections. The neighborhoodis bordered on the northby the Beltway, the west byRockville Pike and the eastby Old Georgetown Road. Justto the south is the campusof the National Institutes ofHealth. Alta Vista featuressplit-levels, ramblers andcolonials, mostly built in the
1950s and ’60s. The average
sale price in 2017 was about
$912,000. Situated in theWalter Johnson High Schoolcluster, the area offers family-friendly recreation options,including the Bethesda-Chevy Chase YMCA withits swimming pools, tenniscourts, fitness classes andsummer camps. Residentsalso enjoy the BethesdaTrolley Trail and Maplewood-Alta Vista Local Park.
Lots of neighborhoods can
be considered close to the
Beltway, but Ashburton is
actually split into two sections,
with the interstate cutting
through it. To get on the
Beltway and I-270, residents
can take Old Georgetown
Road, which borders the east
side of Ashburton. With about
650 split-level and colonialhomes, many on cul-de-sacs,the neighborhood is filledwith sidewalks on fairly flatterrain. Many houses haven’tundergone major renovations,so the neighborhood isknown for being slightly moreaffordable than other areas ofBethesda.
With a cooperative nurseryschool, public elementaryschool and private swimmingpool available, Bannockburnresidents have plenty of placesto connect. The active citizensassociation hosts partiesand an annual spring musicalin a community clubhouse.
